St James Sanctuary quilt

The quilt was made by internationally renowned quilter and member at St James, Margaret Rolfe. She has titled the quilt, Heart of Matter after the thought of Pierre Teilhard de Chardin. In his theology, de Chardin emphasised the importance of evolution, of God throughout everything, in a vast universe.

Of the quilt Margaret says: "The Cross at the centre represents Jesus, the source of the Christian faith, who revealed that God is Love. The Cross also symbolises the fact love can come at a cost.

"The quilt has 6, 561 small pieces making up the background (9 x 9 x 9 x 9), and measures approx. two metres x two metres. I tried to use many different small pieces of fabric within each band of colour, representing the diversity of life, including, of course, the diversity of people. We are all different, but we all have a place".
